The Fort William Mountain Festival 2007 - 2012

The Fort William Mountain Festival has been an annual feature of the Lochaber events calendar since 2000.  The event was formerly known known as the Fort William Mountain Film Festival and changed its name in 2007.

Podge Publicity has looked after the PR campaign for the festival since 2007 when it was one of the flagship events of Highland 2007 - The Year of Highland Culture celebrations.

The 2007 PR campaign was short listed for a VisitScotland Thistle Award and a CIPR Scotland PRide Award.

The annual programme, a feast of lectures, workshops and films for residents and visitors who want to learn about and celebrate mountain culture; during the best winter walking and climbing conditions of the year. that includes The Best of Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, takes place throughout Fort William and Lochaber - the Outdoor Capital of the UK.

The varied and entertaining programme promotes the mountains as an attractive, accessible and above all enjoyable place to be always includes a superb line up of top climbers and extreme sports men and women, mountain filmmakers, inspirational speakers and film screenings from cutting edge outdoor athletes and adventurers; together with climbing, mountaineering and skiing workshops for the whole family.

The Fort William Mountain Festival is part of a worldwide community of Mountain Film and Culture Festivals, the original and most famous being the Banff Mountain Festivals, Canada (www.banffmountainfestivals.ca). Other events in Scotland include the Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival (www.edinburghmountainff.com) and  the Dundee Mountain Film Festival (www.dundeemountainfilm.org.uk).

The Highland Mountain Culture Association Limited is a not for profit organisation, whose aim is to promote the understanding and appreciation of the world’s mountain places and people, by creating opportunities for people of all ages to share their mountain experiences, ideas and visions. To showcase these ideals, it stages annually a programme of events within the Lochaber area, called The Fort William Mountain Festival.
